Selby College

Selby College is a top-performing Tertiary College providing A-Levels, Apprenticeships, Higher Education and vocational work-related courses.

The college operates from a purpose-built, £35m campus based just outside Selby Town Centre, with some of the most modern education facilities in the country.   As an Ofsted-graded ‘Outstanding’ college, the organisation constantly strives to ensure its staff, training courses and equipment is of the highest quality and goes to great lengths to ensure all equipment used to provide training, meets specific industry standards and the needs of both learners and employers.

When the Engineering Department decided to invest in a plasma cutting table, the college investigated which companies were able to supply the type of equipment needed. As a result, Swift-Cut was one of the companies approached and asked to tender for the work, competing with other suppliers for the order.

After a rigorous process, Swift-Cut was selected as the chosen supplier, both because it offered the best value bid and the equipment being supplied fully met the college’s specific requirements.

Ian Muir, Assistant Director and Head of Selby College’s Engineering Department, opted for the Swift-Cut MK3 1250 with both the Swift Mark and Swift Trace functions.

Ian confirmed the installation process went extremely smoothly and was particularly impressed by the training provided by Swift-Cut for each of the college engineering team. The company provided additional support as needed, ensuring the college was able to make rapid use of the new Plasma Cutting Table within days of it being installed. Since then, Ian was quick to point out, the savings made using the Swift-Cut Table have so far been considerable, with the organisation now no longer needing to outsource metal that previously had to be prepared before each training course.

The table is now used on a daily basis with some of the students even having been trained by college staff to use it as opposed to simply handing the engineers their designs; making the Swift-Cut Table a truly hands-on resource for both learners and the college.  In the future, the Department plans to ask Swift-Cut to update the Plasma Cutting Table’s software, to ensure it is fully able to meet the college’s expanding list of training services in future.
